Het Koningsplein en de aanpalende straten zijn opnieuw ingericht, om een schakel te vormen tussen het nieuwe ziekenhuis en het centrum van Enschede. Het intrichtinsplan is een samenhangend en ambitieus plan om op een plek waar veel functies samenkomen tot een goed en herkenbaar plein te komen.
Verlichtingsplan is daartoe (letterlijk) verhelderend ter ondersteuning van één avondbeleving, zodat verschillende functies op het plein samensmelten tot één organisch geheel.
Het middengebied van het plein straalt een eigen sfeer uit van rust en één geheel dat uitnodigt tot verblijf. Dit is vertaald naar een samenhangend inrichtingsplan met bestrating, beplanting, het seriële kunstwerk van Arne Quinze en de bijbehorende verlichting.
Lichtconcept: Plein met één identiteit en verschillende lagen van beleving:
Arne Quinze’s nieuwe publieke kunstwerk, ‘Whispers’, bestaat uit een reeks van 20 unieke stalen vormen in hoogte variërend van 3 tot 11 meter, die door de Belgische kunstenaar in zijn atelier in Luik werden vervaardigd. Dit is zijn eerste permanente en publieke opdracht in Nederland.
Atelier LEK heeft het voorrecht gehad om dit bijzondere werk aan te lichten samen met de kunstenaar en zijn professionele team van ontwerpers.In een 3-tal proefopstelling is een concept gekozen met richtbare spots die naadloos aanlsuiten bij het bestratingsplan van Marina van Eenschoten, landschapsontwerper van Gemeente Enschede.

"The Koningssquare in Enschede and the adjacent streets are redesigned to provide a link between the new hospital and the center of Enschede. The plan for reconstruction is a coherent and ambitious plan to achieve a good and recognizable square in a place where a lot of logistic pathways meet .
The Lightingplan (literally) enlightens the surroundings to support one total evening experience to acchieve the merging of different functions in the square into one organic whole.
The central area of the square radiates a unique atmosphere of peace and coherence that invites you to stay. This is translated into a integral developed plan with paving, planting, the sequential artwork by Arne Quinze and the contributing lighting.

Arne Quinze's new public art, "Whispers", consists of a series of 20 unique samples are varying in height from 3 to 11 meters, which were manufactured by the Belgian artist in his studio in Liege. This is his first permanent public mission and in the Netherlands.
Atelier LEK has had the privilege to illuminate this beautiful work together with the artist and his professional team of designers. During 3 trials a concept was chosen with directional spotlights that seamlessly blend with the landscape design of Marina Eenschoten, landscape designer municipality of Enschede.
